§ Mr. Arnoldasked the Lord Privy Seal how many United Kingdom-based staff are employed on United Kingdom aid projects in each of the following countries: Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia.
§ Mr. HurdThe following figures show the numbers of British nationals or volunteers whose services in these countries were, at 31 October 1979, directly financed in whole or in part from the United Kingdom aid programme. It would be impossible without unjustifiable expense to establish how many of them were United Kindom-based.
- (a) Long and short-term technical co-operation officers—employed by Her Majesty's Government: Kenya 60; Malawi 13; Tanzania 57; Zambia 2.
- (b) Supplemented staff—employed by the Governments: Kenya 524; Malawi 462; Tanzania 53; Zambia 901.
- (c) Volunteers—employed by Voluntary Service Overseas: Kenya 61; Malawi 25;Tanzania 63; Zambia 31.
Figures are not available to show the numbers of staff of firms of consultants and contractors engaged on British aid projects.
