§ Miss Margaret JacksonStatistics for areas smaller than local education authorities are not compiled by my Department. In January 1978, in the county of Kent as a whole, there were 1,367 full-time and part-time pupils attending maintained nursery schools or nursery classes in maintained primary schools: this figure represents 4 per cent. of the estimated population aged 3 and 4 years as at the previous June. A further 3,090 pupils under 5 years of age attended ordinary classes in maintained primary schools which represents 8 per cent. of the estimated population.
