HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 cc864-5W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if his Department has made any estimate of the amount of land that would be made available for industrial development if the derelict land in the south docks system in Liverpool was reclaimed; and how long it would take for this land to be fully used up at current rates of development in the city.

Mr. Guy Barnett

The amount of land in the South Docks area which is not yet subject to reasonably specific proposals for new development is approximately 310 acres, including the former Dingle oil terminal. The amount of this which might be used for industrial development, and the period of time it would last will depend on the decisions of the planning authorities.

Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his Department's estimate of the amount of available serviced land remaining in Liverpool for industrial development; and how much longer this land will last at current rates of development.

Mr. Guy Barnett

The Department will rely in this matter on the estimate understood to be currently in preparation by Liverpool city council for use by the partnership committee.

Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take action to assist the city of Liverpool in reclaiming the derelict south docks system.

Mr. Guy Barnett

We are considering outline proposals made by the Mersey-side county council.
