HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 cc904-5W
Mr. Goodlad

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps his Department proposes to reduce the length of hospital waiting lists in Cheshire.

Mr. Moyle

Health authorities have been asked to identify in their capital estimates schemes expected to reduce waiting lists. Also, a proportion of the extra funds for the National Health Service announced in the Chancellor's April 1978 Budget has been specifically directed to this problem. We shall be monitoring local lists throughout the National Health Service planning system.

Regarding Cheshire, I understand that a deputation from the area health authority will shortly be discussing medical staffing levels throughout the area with the Mersey regional health authority and the question of waiting lists will be an important factor in these discussions.
