asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many dwellings in (a) England and Wales, (b) the North-West and (c) Cheshire have been connected to gas mains in each of the past five years.

I am informed by the British Gas Corporation that the numbers (in thousands) of dwellings for which new connections to the gas supply were made in each of the last five years were as follows:
