HC Deb 03 April 1979 vol 965 c696W
69. Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what advice she is giving local education authorities about the heating of schools, and keeping schools open, where the systems are oil-fired, bearing in mind that contracts accepted on behalf of schools in the Sheffield area cannot now be fulfilled.

Miss Margaret Jackson

Most local education authorities, including Sheffield, which are affected by restrictions in the supply of oil have already taken steps to deal with the problem. General advice would be of limited value; but my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy will be asking the industry whether any action could be taken to provide direct supplies for schools where they are most needed.
