HC Deb 03 April 1979 vol 965 c627W
Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will direct the British Steel Corporation and the Central Electricity Generating Board, respectively, to ensure that coal which the British Steel Corporation intends to import from Australia should be drawn as far as possible from Australian coal supplies which he required the Central Generating Board to refrain from importing.

Mr. Eadie

The Government believe it is in the national interest that the country should make the maximum practicable use of home-produced coking coal. The steam coal that the CEGB contracted to import would not be suitable for making coke for use in blast furnaces.
