HC Deb 03 April 1979 vol 965 cc665-6W
Mr. Alexander Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many day centre places for the mentally ill are available in each regional authority in Scotland.

Mr. McElhone

According to returns by local authorities in respect of the year ended 31 March 1978, the only local authority provision in a centre exclusively for the mentally ill was made by Grampian regional council and provided 20 places. Most regions however, have places for the mentally ill in day centres which are also used by other groups of people.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many day hospital places for the mentally ill are financed by the health boards in Scotland.

Mr. Harry Ewing

Comprehensive information on day care places is not available as such places are not always specifically designated.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many places are occupied by the mentally ill in sheltered workshops in Scotland.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

A detailed breakdown of disabilities suffered by employees in sheltered workshops is not readily available and could only be provided at disproportionate cost.
