HC Deb 03 April 1979 vol 965 c593W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what measures of retaliation have been taken against United Kingdom exporters as a result of the limited measures to restrict imports taken by the United Kingdom Government; and whether any instances of a foreign Government threatening such action have come to his attention.

Mr. Meacher,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 2 April 1979; Vol. 965, c. 499], gave the following answer:

Following the introduction last November of restrictions on imports of certain textiles from Malta, the Maltese Government announced a ban on the import of all textile products from the United Kingdom. This ban is still in operation. In a number of other cases there have been some indications of retaliation but no firm evidence.
