HC Deb 02 April 1979 vol 965 cc510-1W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many jobs have been created by the Development Board for Rural Wales during the past two years in the Ceredigion area; and if he will make a statement;

(2) how many jobs have been created by the Development Board for Rural Wales during the past two years in the board's designated area; and if he will make a statement;

(3) how many jobs have been created by the Development Board for Rural Wales during the past 12 months in the Aberystwyth area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Barry Jones

The Board estimates that the 140 of its factories now let in the designated area provide 4,650 jobs, some 500 of them in Ceredigion. About 800 of these jobs are in the 71 factories which the Board has let in the two year period up to 31 March 1979. There will be further job increases as these factories become fully manned. In Aberystwyth three factories have recently been let, with a job potential of about 50. In addition, the Board estimates that a further 150 full-time jobs have been created in its area by the activities of its business advisory service, a third of them in Ceredigion.
