HC Deb 02 April 1979 vol 965 c492W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council whether he will publish in the Official Report a detailed list of the salaries and allowances paid to hon. Members of the various countries in the EEC and similar details for Members of the European Assembly.

Mr. Foot

As I said in the reply I gave my hon. Friend the Member for Grimsby (Mr. Mitchell) on 23 February [Vol. 963, c.330], information on the salaries and allowances of parliamentarians in the EEC is being collected centrally for publication in due course. Allowances paid to Members of the European Assembly are the concern of that body but the rates I understand to be currently payable are: Subsistence—80 European units of account per day. Travel—0.34 units of account for each of the first 400 kilometres and 0.14 units of account for each subsequent kilometre. Secretarial assistance—Reimbursement of the cost of privately engaged secretarial assistance within a limit of 678 units of account per month.
