HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 cc937-8W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what level National Health Service prescription charges would have to be raised to restore them to the value they represented at the time when they were last increased.

Mr. Moyle

The prescription charge was last increased, to 20p, on 1st April 1971: the equivalent now would be just over 50p. It remains our intention to phase out prescription charges when economic circumstances permit.
