HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 c765W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether he is aware that the price of potatoes being charged in restaurants, hotels and fish and chip shops is still excessive and based upon what they were during the period of scarcity of potatoes; and, now that there is a glut of potatoes, whether he will take action to see that these price reductions are reflected in charges in catering establishments.

Mr. Maclennan

My right hon. Friend has no plans at present to direct the Price Commission to examine the price of cooked potatoes sold in hotels and restaurants. The wide diversity of financial and commercial circumstances of such establishments means that an examination would be unlikely to produce any firm conclusions.
