HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 c802W
30. Mr. Warren

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has received from the Government of Malta concerning the accuracy of reporting in the British Press about the observance of human rights in Malta; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Judd

The Malta Government have at various times drawn attention to what they regard as inaccurate reporting in the British news media, but have not done so specifically in connection with reports on human rights. Where appropriate such observations have been passed on to the Press. However, it has always been made clear to the Malta Government that the British Press is entirely independent of Government control and that the Government have no responsibility for what it says.
