HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 cc923-4W
Dr. Edmund Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the ratios for average number of patients per general practitioner which at present determine whether an area is designated, open, intermediate or closed for the purposes of distribution of medical manpower.

Mr. Moyle

The average numbers of patients on general practitioners' lists used by the Medical Practices Committee to determine whether an area is designated, open, intermediate or restricted are 2,500 and above; 2,201 to 2,499; 1,801 to 2,200; and 1,800 and below, respectively.

In assessing average lists, adjustments are made to exclude the practices of certain part-time and elderly doctors.
