HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 cc818-9W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will confirm that the Beswick Advice Management Co-operative and the Self Help Clearing House are or were funded by the Manpower Services Commission, and under which heading they received funding, stating the amount and duration of funding; and if any other co-operative projects have been funded under this heading.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that two projects, with the same aim, sponsored by the Beswick Advice Management Cooperative have been funded consecutively under the job creation programme. The first received £12,513 from 15th November 1976 to 14th May 1977. The second project began on 15th May 1977 and is due to end on 29th December 1978. Its estimated total cost will be £38,728. The aim of these schemes is to run welfare rights advisory centres. A small number of projects of a similar type have been funded under the job creation programme.

I am sorry it is not possible to identify the Self Help Clearing House from the information available. However, if my hon. Friend will provide further details I will arrange for the information requested to be obtained.
