§ Mr. Welshasked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the latest figures for the number and percentage of Scots serving in United Kingdom Armed Forces; and if he will give similar figures for recent recruits.
§ Mr. WellbelovedFigures for the number of Service personnel born in Scotland could not be produced without disproportionate effort. In the financial year 1977–78, 3,663 Servicemen and Servicewomen—excluding Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service—were re-784W cruited in Scotland representing 10.2 per cent. of all such personnel recruited in the United Kingdom in the same period. Regional figures for officer entrants to the three Services and for all entrants to the Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service are not readily available as these are recruited centrally.
