asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many male sex offenders who have under- gone hormone treatment are appealing to tribunals to have their sentences reduced because of the alleged ineffectiveness of the treatment.

Mr. Merlyn Rees:

I know of no prisoner who is petitioning for remission of sentence on these grounds.

I assume, however, that the Question relates to references to mental health review tribunals at the instance of offender patients detained in psychiatric hospitals. I shall write to my hon. Friend to explain the position.
