§ 43. Miss Maynardasked the Secretary of State for Trade, in view of the serious situation in the special steels industry, what action he proposes to take; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Meacher:The industry's current difficulties relate primarily to low-cost competition from within the EEC. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Industry has put specific proposals to the Commission for dealing with the problem and we are now studying Viscount Davignon's reply. On the issue of imports from outside the Community I 20W am pressing for improved coverage of special steels in the EEC agreements with the principal exporting countries in 1979.
