HC Deb 27 November 1978 vol 959 c2W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he will ask the Price Commission to investigate farm machine prices in view of the increase in the price of combine harvesters from £6,000 in 1974 to £22,000 in 1978.

Mr. Maclennan:

The decision whether to investigate the price increases of a particular firm is a matter for the Price Commission itself. My right hon. Friend is able to direct the Commission to examine general matters relating to prices and charges within a particular sector. He has no present plans to direct the commission to make an examination of farm machinery, but will bear my hon. Friend's suggestion in mind.
