§ Dr. SummerskillThose convicted of murder receive a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment and are not, therefore, eligible for parole. cannot say in advance which of these prisoners—or those convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment, who are similarly not eligible for parole—will be considered for release on licence in the next 12 months. Those convicted of manslaughter and given a determinate sentence of imprisonment are reviewed for parole after serving one-third of their sentence—subject to a period of 12 months from sentence—and thereafter annually. I regret that it would require disproportionate time and effort to identify those who will be reviewed within the next 12 months.
