§ Baroness BIRKThere is no central record of the quantity of cider produced by individual makers, but on the information available, which does not differentiate between farmhouse and other cider producers, the figures for the year ended 31st March 1978 are:—

Cider makers producing under 15,000 gallons (but not less than 10,000 gallons) 1 in Avon 1 in Devon 1 in Herefordshire and Worcestershire 1 in Suffolk tax and surtax/higher rate of tax raised from the top 1 per cent., 5 per cent., 10 per cent., and each subsequent decile group of income taxpayers in 1945, 1950, 1955, 1959 and each year since 1964.
§ Baroness BIRKThe figures in the following table are for the fiscal years 1949–50, 1959–60, and for each year from 1969–70 to 1976–77 inclusive. Data for 1945 are not obtainable, and those for 1955 and 1964 to 1968 inclusive could not be obtained without a disproportionate expenditure of resources.
