§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will review the position in grant regulations which has emerged with the termination of the special teacher recruitment scheme whereby qualified entrants to teacher training colleges obtain grants if they have been unemployed or in receipt of supplementary benefit but not if they have undergone training or education while assisted by educational grants.
§ Mr. McElhoneQualified entrants to colleges of education, regardless of their previous employment position, are eligible for grants under the students' allowances scheme provided that they are not already qualified for a career. This condition is being reviewed in relation to prospective secondary teachers of subjects in which there are shortages of teachers.
