§ Mr. Andersonasked the Secretary of State for Transport, further to his Answer 590W of 10th May, Official Report, Volume 950, c. 308, whether he will report progress on his Department's exercise to repay vehicle excise duty overpaid at the time of the 1977 Budget.
§ Mr. William RodgersI announced on 10th May that we would consider all claims we had received by that evening. In the event those amounted to some 167,000. To date we have paid 99,436 claims, and have rejected 30,010. There are thus about 38,000 claims still to be dealt with. Of those, some 31,000 appear to be outside the criteria for repayment and further information is being sought on them.
