HC Deb 24 May 1978 vol 950 cc625-6W
Mr. Jay

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what amounts of the following commodities are now held in Intervention Board stores or EEC-aided private storage in the United Kingdom, and at what addresses the principal depots containing these stores are sited: cereals, beef, butter, sugar, and skimmed milk powder.

Mr. Bishop

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 16th May 1978; Vol. 950, c. 132], gave the following information:

With the exception of cereals, the Intervention Board relies entirely on approved commercial facilities for storage which is secured as required. For commercial and operational reasons, the details of the quantities of commodities held in each store are not published.

On 30th April, 14,325 tonnes of barley was held at Government-owned stores at Manby (Louth, Lines), Old Dalby (Melton Mowbray, Leics), Hartlebury (Kidderminster, Worcs) and Polmont (Redding, Falkirk, Scotland).

It is understood that about 18,000 tonnes of intervention beef is currently being stored in the United Kingdom by the Republic of Ireland.
