§ Mr. Brothertonasked the Minister of Overseas Development what is the total amount of public funds that have been available in development aid in the form of loans since 1974; what is the sum that has been repaid to date; when the final repayments are expected; and whether there have been any cases of failure to make repayments by the time limit agreed.
§ Mrs. HartFrom 1973–74 onwards, £419.5 million, none of which has been repaid to date, as all loans have a grace period. Most repayments are over a 25-year term, with final repayments at varying dates up to the financial year 2002–2003. The question of any failure to repay within time limits does not therefore arise.
