HC Deb 08 May 1978 vol 949 c393W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what has been the total cost of running the University Grants Committee, including all main constituent costs of any sort whatsoever, namely, expenditure on its own programmes, wages, rent, heating and lighting, maintenance, &c., in the latest 12 months for which figures are available; and what are the projected costs for 1978–79.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

I refer the hon. Member to the Appropriation Accounts (Volume 3: Class X Vote 1 Section B) 1976–77 and to the Supply Estimates 1978–79 (Class X Vote 1 Section B), which show grants to universities through, and administrative costs of, the University Grants Committee. The administrative expenditure figures exclude certain accommodation costs which in 1973–79 are estimated to amount to about £187,000 at 1977 prices.
