§ 36. Mr. Michael Morrisasked the Minister of Overseas Development what were the results of the review of aid to Sri Lanka carried out in December 1977.
§ Mr. TomlinsonAs a result of the mission's recommendations we propose to provide £12 million of new project aid for Sri Lanka and to increase our maintenance grant there from £3 million to £5 million. We have also agreed to finance a comprehensive consultancy to help plan and cost the large Victoria irrigation and power project which will form the first part of the Accelerated Mahaweli Development Scheme and, in the light of the outcome of the consultancy, to offer help to finance the project.
