HC Deb 04 May 1978 vol 949 c218W
19. Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his policy towards the proposal of the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire on the legalising of prostitution; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John

The chief constable has made no proposal to us, but prostitution is not itself illegal. The criminal law deals with the activities of prostitutes and those who organise them. We have no proposals for amending that part of the law pending the outcome of the general review of the law on sexual offences which is being undertaken by the Criminal Law Revision Committee and the Policy Advisory Committee on Sexual Offences.
