§ Mr. Churchillasked the Secretary of State for Industry by how much his Department's expenditure per capita in the North-West Region exceeds, or is less 232W than, that of the national average per capita in respect of his Department.
§ Mr. Cryer, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 2nd May 1978; Vol. 949, c. 13–4], gave the following information:
We estimate that in the years 1974–75 to 1976–77 the annual average expenditure in the North-West by my Department on regional preferential assistance and in respect of various schemes under Section 8 of the Industry Act was £67 million, £10.2 per capital. This compares with £5.8 million, £0:2 per capita for the non-assisted areas taken together and with £402 million, £7.4 per capita, for Great Britain as a whole.
