HC Deb 04 May 1978 vol 949 c279W
Mr. Fitt

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) whether he intends to introduce legislation to bring the Belfast Harbour Commission into line with the other harbour boards such as Davenport and Derry in Northern Ireland;

(2) whether he is satisfied with the plural system of business voting to Belfast Harbour Commissioners; and whether he is to allow this type of voting to continue.

Mr. Concannon

I agree that the present plural system of business voting is unsatisfactory. It is my intention to carry out a reconstitution of the present Commission. There will be full consultation with the interests concerned about the arrangements for reconstitution, which will take into account those introduced for the port authorities at Warrenpoint and Londonderry and in the larger authorities in Great Britain.
