§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what analysis has been undertaken by his Department of the correlation between the certain knowledge of taking of thalidomide by pregnant mothers and the frequency of "atypical characteristics" amongst their deformed children, from amongst the Y-list children in the United Kingdom, and also amongst other sample groups in the United States, Sweden and other countries.
§ Mr. Alfred MorrisMy Department has not undertaken such an analysis, but I would expect information about "atypical characteristics" to be available to the Medical Assessment Panel, which is an independent body of medical experts set up to advise both the "X" and "Y" list parents. I will, however, bring the hon. Member's Question to the attention of Sir Alan Marre, who is currently carrying out an enquiry into the position of the young people on the "Y" list.
