Authority(ies) Capital Revenue Capital Revenue
Walsall Area Health Authority 3.0 42.1 4.2 64.6
Average West Midland's; Area Health Authorities 5.0 55.5 5.0 83.3
Average London Area Health Authorities 5.8 89.1 6.9 129.0
Average England and Wales 5.5 63.1 6.9 93.2

Notes:

(1) The figures do not include expenditure by regional health authorities on services such as blood transfusion services, ambulances and mass X-Ray, or expenditure by boards of governors of the postgraduate teaching hospitals and by the Welsh Health Technical Services Organisation. For consistency, expenditure on ambulance services, where incurred by an area health authority, is also excluded. The figures for London area health authorities relate to the area covered by the Greater London Council.

(2) The national and London figures are influenced by the payment of London Weighting allowance to staff and by the incidence of additional expenditure in the provision of facilities for the clinical teaching of medical and dental students, which also applies to the West Midland's average figures in so far as they include Birmingham Area Health Authority(T).

(3) The population figures used take no account of people who are provided with treatment outside their area of residence nor are they adjusted for differences in the morbidity and age/sex structures of the relative populations.
