HC Deb 23 March 1978 vol 946 cc655-6W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what steps he is taking to counteract the misrepresentation about the British Doppler Microwave Landing System (DMLS) being undertaken by the United States authorities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Williams

The technical superiority of British equipment over that of the United States is being demonstrated in a series of tests. There is no substance in the allegation that the United Kingdom could not supply the Doppler system in adequate quantities. I can give an assurance that the Government stand firmly behind this project. If the British equipment is chosen at the Montreal conference as the world's next aircraft landing system the Government will give all possible help to ensure its production in the quantities needed to meet world demand.
