HC Deb 13 March 1978 vol 946 c80W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of school leavers in Walsall enter further and higher education and what is the percentage for England and Wales.

Mr. Oakes

It is estimated that 13 per cent. of those leaving school in 1975–76 in Walsall intended to proceed directly to further and higher education. The similar percentage for England and Wales was 22.0. These statistics are likely to underestimate those going directly to full-time higher and further education, since for one in six leavers, headteachers did not provide information about the pupils' destinations.
