§ Mr. Brothertonasked the Secretary of State for Employment what powers workshop managers will have to dismiss youths employed under the scheme of the Manpower Services Commission to train unemployed teenagers.
§ Mr. GoldingI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that managers of training workshops funded under the youth opportunities programme will be able to dismiss young people after consultation with the MSC area office. As young people in workshops will be paid an allowance by the MSC, they will not have the status of employees and the consequent benefits of the Employment Protection Act. It is important, therefore, that any decision to dismiss should be jointly agreed between the sponsor and the MSC.
