HC Deb 02 March 1978 vol 945 c333W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what further discussions are being undertaken with the EEC regarding the date on which tachographs are to be fitted to commercial vehicles.

Mr. William Rodgers

The Government are considering the Commission's "reasoned opinion", which reached us only a couple of weeks ago.

Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will estimate the date by which he will comply with the EEC requirement to fit tachographs to commercial vehicles.

Mr. William Rodgers

No.

Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has on which countries of the EEC, apart from the United Kingdom, have failed to comply with the requirement to fit tachographs to commercial vehicles.

Mr. William Rodgers

From the information available to me, I understand that only the Republic of Ireland is in that position.
