HC Deb 02 March 1978 vol 945 c321W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will publish as much detailed information as may be readily available giving the total number, grades, classifications and Departments of the public service where the persons employed have to sign a declaration under the Official Secrets Act; and how these figures compare with previous years as far back as information is conveniently available.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

Any person, whether or not a Crown servant, who is entrusted with official information, becomes subject to the provisions of the Acts whether or not he or she signs a declaration. Many public servants as well as most civil servants are invited to sign a declaration that the provisions of the Acts have been brought to their attention. No central record is maintained of the number of such declarations.
