HC Deb 02 March 1978 vol 945 c314W
44. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give an assurance that Her Majesty's Government will not seek to alter the constitutional status of the Channel Islands or of the Isle of Man without the consent of their peoples, expressed either by plebiscite or through their legislatures.

Dr. Summerskill

Her Majesty's Government have no plans to alter the constitutional status of these islands. If they were ever to seek to do so, they would certainly not proceed without the consent of their peoples.
