§ Mr. Maurice Macmillanasked the Secretary of State for Employment what machinery exists to monitor the effectiveness of the youth opportunities programme.
§ Mr. GoldingI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that it is giving high priority to the monitoring and evaluation of the new youth opportunities programme. A network of MSC area offices has been set up and MSC officials will visit sponsors regularly to keep a check on the quality of schemes and on the progress of young people on them.
The Manpower Services Commission is also developing a comprehensive management information system on the programme and a number of studies and surveys are being planned to assess the effects nationally of the programme.
