Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list those organisations in Calderdale with which the West Yorkshire area committee has been in contact in connection with the youth opportunities programme and the special temporary employment programme; how many meetings have taken place between representatives of the West Yorkshire area committee and Calderdale council representatives; and what further meetings are planned.

Mr. Golding,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 24th July 1978; Vol. 954, c. 581–582], gave the following information:

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that since 3rd April, when the special programmes began operations, the following organisations in Calderdale have received visits from area office staff to discuss possible sponsorship under the programmes:

Calderdale council is represented on the West Yorkshire area board, which meets every month. In addition, since the special programmes began operations, area office staff have held two meetings with representatives of Calderdale council and 20 meetings with Calderdale council staff. The area office intends to maintain this regular contact with Calderdale council.

Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many inquiries have been received from employers by the West Yorkshire area committee about participating in either the youth opportunities scheme or the special temporary employment programme; how many such inquiries have come from Calderdale; and how many visits to Calderdale have been made by representatives of the area committee to bring both schemes to the attention of employers and others.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that since 3rd April, when special programmes began operations, an estimated 350 to 400 inquiries about the programmes have been received from employers in the West Yorkshire area. Approximately 65 of these enquiries have come from employers in the Calder-dale area. 46 visits have been made to Calderdale to bring these schemes to the attention of employers and others.
