HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 cc30-1W
Mr. Stainton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, with a view to preventing the disturbance of Mr. Vladimir Rezun on political grounds, he will refuse a visa to Mr. B. V. Rezun, should the latter seek to enter the United Kingdom in order to see Mr. Vladimir Rezun, his son, who defected from the USSR and has sought asylum with his family in London.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

In accordance with normal practice, a short visit visa for Mr. B V. Rezun has been authorised. It has been made clear to him and to the Soviet authorities that it is entirely a matter for his son to decide whether to see him and that there can be no question of pressure being exerted by the British Government.
