The Civil Aviation Authority notified licensees of aerodromes of the revised scales, and emphasised the need for them to be met as soon as practicable. Most of the island airstrips on Orkney and Shetland at present fail to meet the recommended scales and, therefore, fall below the internationally accepted standards for the class of operations conducted at these aerodromes.
