asked the Secretary of State for Industry how much financial assistance has been made available to date under the special schemes for wool textiles and clothing; how much assistance has been granted to firms in Calderdale, West Yorkshire; how many applications from firms in Calderdale are under consideration; and if he will make a statement.

Under the first wool textile scheme a total of £18 million was available, £16.6 million has been estimated as the requirement and £14.7 million has been paid. Under the second wool textile scheme a total of £5 million has been available and offers of £2.4 million have been made.

A total of £15 million is available under the clothing scheme and total take-up is expected. £12.3 million had been offered up to 21st July with payments at £3.5 million. In Calderdale, West Yorkshire, first wool textile scheme payments have been £607,000, second wool textile scheme payments £1,250 and clothing scheme payments of £8,000.

For the first wool textile scheme there are no applications from firms in Calder-dale under consideration. For the second wool textile scheme there are two applications and for the clothing scheme six applications are under consideration.
