HC Deb 27 July 1978 vol 954 cc914-5W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the total rateable value of dwellings owned by the Housing Executive; what is the total sum for rates in the current year and for each year since the end of the financial year 1974–75; and what sums are now overdue for the financial years 1974–75; 1975–76, and 1976–77 in respect of these dwellings.

Mr. Carter,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 25th July 1978]; gave the following answer.

The information is as follows:

  • Rateable value: £20.36 million
  • Rates payable: 1974–75—£6.75 million
  • 1975–76—£9.39 million
  • 1976–77—£10.48 million
  • 1977–78—£12.24 million

The Housing Executive pays rates on all its dwellings and collects rates from tenants along with rents and heating charges. The figures for rates arrears by tenants are not readily available but for the total figures for arrears I refer the hon. Member to the reply that I gave him on 15th May 1978—[Vol. 950, c. 76.]
