§ Mr. Formanasked the Minister of Overseas Development whether she has now considered the report of her Advisory Committee on Development Education; and if she will publish it.
§ Mrs. HartYes. Copies have been placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
This report made to me by my Advisory Committee on Development Education recommends that the Ministry of Overseas Development should finance an expanding programme of development education.
860WThe report contains valuable advice on the way such a programme should be made up and put into effect. I intend to begin at once to implement it. The full costs will be met from within the aid programme.
I propose to increase the funds available for this purpose to £1½ million this year, rising by stages to £2.787 million by 1982–83 at current prices.
The Advisory Committee on Development Education, and particularly the members of its working party, are to be congratulated on their report. It has focused clearly what needs to be done, and has been a great help to the Government in deciding the form of the initiative we are now taking.
