HC Deb 27 July 1978 vol 954 cc911-2W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will take steps with the Greek and Turkish authorities to arrange for a full investigation into the murder of the British journalist Ann Chapman in Athens in 1971, following the publication by Mr. Sadi Kocas, a former Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, of new evidence on her murder, and of new information of her possession of American defence agency intelligence documents.

Mr. Judd

Investigations into the death of Ann Chapman are solely a matter for the Greek judicial authorities. The British Government have no standing in this case and cannot therefore request a retrial for a Greek citizen convicted in a Greek court for an offence committed in Greece.
