Mr. Jim Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many teachers in primary and secondary schools in the county districts of the Greater Manchester county are presently engaged on remedial work.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonThese figures are not collected by my Department. However my inquiries show that about 360—full-time equivalent—teachers are presently employed in specialist remedial work within the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester; some teaching primary and secondary school pupils directly and others acting in an advisory role. Many other teachers do remedial work as part of their normal teaching duties.
