HC Deb 18 July 1978 vol 954 cc125-6W
47. Mr. Loyden

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she has received the plans for reorganisation of secondary education from the Liverpool education authority; and if she will make a statement.

Miss Margaret Jackson

Liverpool county secondary schools are all reorganised on comprehensive lines with the exception of the institute schools, for which proposals to eliminate selection with effect from September 1979 are awaited. Roman Catholic secondary schools continue to operate in a selective basis although a scheme for comprehensive reorganisation has been submitted and consideration is at present being given to the implementation date.

My right hon. Friend understands that the rationalisation of non-Roman Catholic secondary provision is currently being discussed locally and looks forward to receiving proposals in due course.
