§ Mrs. Wiseasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the cost of allowing claims for family income supplement to be made on the 731W basis of full-time working by either husband or wife, instead of husband only; what is his estimate of the number of families which could be affected; and whether his studies confirm that the principal categories affected are those where the husband is disabled, or is studying full time.
§ Mr. Deakins,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 16th June 1978; Vol. 951, c. 707–8], gave the following information:
The estimate of the number of families affected, based on my Department's analysis of the 1976 family expenditure survey, is the same as for 1975–10,000 in Great Britain—and is subject to the same limitations and qualifications as described in my right hon. Friend's reply on 5th December 1977. Using current benefit levels, the estimated cost would be about £3¼ million, excluding administration costs.
